Story

My mummy and daddy, plus all my uncles, aunties, and grandparents spoil me lots! I am such a lucky boy that I really don’t ever want for anything. Mummy secretly loves spending all her money on my new clothes teehee, and she tells daddy they’ve been in the wardrobe ages. Lucky for her I can’t tell him the truth yet :-)

My birthday will be a mixed day really. It was so exciting to arrive in the world and meet my mummy and daddy last year, but I know they were sad I had to have a little holiday in the QMC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The nurses were so lovely to me, and the doctors are very clever. But it wasn’t the same as having cuddles with mummy and daddy at home.

I am SO excited to turn ONE! I’m such a big boy now. I love crawling (mostly backwards) around the lounge and can stand all by myself now. It won’t be long before I am chasing my furry big brother, Ralph, around the garden haha!

I really don’t need or want anything in life, all my wonky bits will be fixed this year, and I’m so lucky to be here.

If you were thinking of buying me a present then a BIG THANK YOU! But please could I ask a favour of you instead?

would love you to help me and my mummy and daddy raise £25,000 for the QMC’s NICU. They are creating a special room for other new mummies and daddies to look after poorly babies like I was a year ago. It costs a lot of money but will be so special. It’s even going to be named “Super George’s Room”!

Please don’t feel you have to though; I hear my mummy say “money is tight at the moment” - although I really don’t understand as I never wear the same outfit more than twice!

Thanks for reading and have a SUPER day xx

Super George’s Room

The purpose of the room is to make it a resource fit for the education and training of parents and staff for many years. The aim will be to provide a resource for all aspects of education and training with some examples including:

1.   Environment suitable to teach parents/carers the important skills of resuscitation in the unfortunate event they need to use these skills at home.

2.   Training parents and staff how to change tracheostomy equipment safely and what to do if things don’t go according to plan.

3.   Pit-stop training for newborn resuscitation – training all the team to plan and undertake newborn resuscitation to improve the outcomes for babies.

4.   Education and training resources around breast feeding, infection prevention, stoma care, naso-gastric tube feeding particularly for parents at home.

This multi-purpose room will make it easier to meet with other professionals and parents to plan safe discharge home. Also as a local space for parent groups to meet when needed.

Detailed below is a list of key equipment/ resources/ furniture we hope to include in the room. This is the ‘wish’ list and we hope to fund it all.

1. Newborn resuscitation platform and equipment for training £9,000

2. Breathing equipment for training using the above £3,500

3. Training manikins – term, preterm and specialist (e.g. tracheostomy, stoma) £3,000

4. Flip top table allowing room to double as meeting resource (2 tables and chairs) £1,400

5. Laptop for training/education – videos/presentations/resuscitation training etc £1,300
