Story

Hi, I'm Sam, a very handsome yellow Labrador boy. I came into the care of Oldies Club, a volunteer-run dog rescue charity that rescues and rehomes older dogs in the UK, at the end of 2013.

Unfortunately after arriving in my lovely foster home, it soon became apparent that I had a number of worrying health concerns :-( Thankfully I am in great hands with Oldies Club, as the charity is paying for any vet care I need. Great news for me, but this is costing Oldies Club lots of money, so I'd be really grateful if you could help out with a donation to this page.

Earlier this month, I had an x-ray and ultrasound and the vet found that there was a white, calcified, round lump with a shadow behind, in my stomach. This was very worrying news and the vet said it could be a stone I had swallowed at some point, or a tumour, which may or may not be cancerous. I have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, so there was an extra worry about my having surgery, but the operation was essential.

Oldies Club booked me in for surgery to try to remove the lump and everyone crossed their fingers and paws that it would turn out to be a stone and not something far more sinister - and that I'd be ok through the operation. The wonderful news is that it was indeed a stone. Well, us Labradors are well known for our great appetites!

I needed to have 24 hour care following the surgery and I am now back, recovering at my foster home. The bill for my vet care since coming into Oldies Club care is expected to be in the region of £2,300, which includes the recent surgery/recovery care, plus the medication and tests I was given before the operation. This is obviously a lot of money for a small charity, so if you are able to make a donation to help with this, we would all be very grateful.

Please note that should Oldies Club supporters be generous enough to donate more than is needed for my vet bill, any excess money will be directed to the charity’s general fund and used to help other older dogs in its care.

Super Sam xxx
