Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness across the UK. Our nurses work night and day in people’s homes and our hospices offer specialist care. We also support people emotionally, provide practical information, and match them with trained volunteers.

Story

The challenge is complete - we raised over £ 350,000 a great effort from everyone.

Ride sections was great, had superb horses, great guides and excellent back up crew. Thank you to everyone who gave and helped me to meet my target.

When I became a regular contributor to Marie Curie Cancer Care, I never realised how close cancer would come to my own doorstep. In September 2008 my Mum was diagnosed with cancer, the bottom fell out our lives and the clock just stopped. Mum had a six months of chemo and radiotherapy. Her life just changed overnight from a fun loving sportswoman to barely being able to get out of bed. As spring changed to summer in 2009 she began to make improvements and soon had her zest for life back again. She had a wonderful summer going on a cruise, a trip to see the famous Lipizzaner stud in Spain, back riding her beloved horse, Oliver and of course the wonderful wedding of her only son, Morton to Rhonda. Unfortunately in the autumn things were not good, the tumour was growing again and this time with great speed. Suddenly but quite peacefully Mum passed away on 1st November 2009.

This trip and the money it will raise is dedicated to Betty Hannah, those of you who knew will remember her as a great friend. Thank you to all of you for the wonderful cards and letters of support, they will be treasured for ever. Thank you to wonderful help and support from the fantastic care team of Jean, Cheryl, Nan and Amanda, you all restored our faith in human nature, it was a pleasure to have met you all. Love you always. Susan xxx

For those of you who never met my mum, attached is her obituary that was published in the Scottish Farmer & Scottish Horse. http://www.scottishhorse.co.uk/news/other-news/obituary-betty-hannah-1.986960

If you would like to take part in a challenge have a look on the Marie Curie website, something to suit everyone. www.mariecurie.org.uk/challenge.

If you still have donations to give me, I am open to all offers - no pets or secondhand men (although I am considering running an auction for these as there seems to be a glut on the market with no clear route for disposal) cash preferred.
