Susan was born in Kent in 1937, the only child of Lucy and Laurie Thompson. She spent the last half of her life in Colchester, Essex, where she lived with her family.

As well as being at the heart of our family, Susan cultivated many friendships, often with people in need. It is for this reason that money given in her name to the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture will be particularly apt. This charity provides for people in great and desperate need, some of whom are children. These are people who have fled to the UK having survived unimaginable horrors, such as torture, war and genocide. The Medical Foundation works to help such people rebuild their lives, providing them with medical care, as well as pychological support and other invaluable forms of help.
