Capital One Three Peaks Challenge 2018 · 7 July 2018
In July I will be joining 41 others from Capital One to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge. This involves 23 miles of mountain hiking up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon all in 24 hours.
As soon as I read the email about this challenge, I immediately thought I need to do this. Since having my knee op in August last year, I've struggled to get my fitness back. It took 3 months to just get back to walking unaided and another 3 months before I could even start running again. That 6 months felt a long time. So I'm doing this challenge for two reasons. Firstly, it's a massive personal challenge for me physically to complete. It's making me get back to exercise and get my fitness back. But more importantly, it's for a great cause. This year has been a real challenge for me with getting my mobility back, my momma sadly passed away and the kids took it in turns to have a number of illnesses which left me sleep deprived. This definitely affected my mental well being and whilst I kept going, it's probably down to having such a great family network knowing I always had people to turn to. Unfortunately, many people have a lot more going on and don't always have the support they need to combat this alone. Rethink Mental Illness do and amazing job and this is my way of giving something back. You never know what's going to happen in life and knowing organisations like this are there to help is amazing!!
Some Facts about the challenge:
Total walking distance - 23 miles (37km)
Total ascent - 3064 metres (10,052ft)
Total distance driven (by the amazing support crew) 462 miles
Time to complete - 24 hours
