Story
Following an evening of alcohol and a moment of madness, back in January I signed up to join friends in an adventure challenge to cycle from Vietnam to Cambodia between 19th & 29th November.
My Nan had passed away on 23rd November last year at the remarkable age of 98 and I wanted to do something special in her memory. I'm not sure this was actually the kind of thing I was contemplating and realistically my Nana would think I was mad. However, people always say it’s good to push your limits and be out of your comfort zone occasionally and for those who know me, this is well and truly going to be my time for that. Not only for the fact that I am cycling 400km (248miles) over 5 days but add to that being 18 hours away from home, 6am daily starts, sanitation warnings and requiring several travel vaccinations. Yes, I have wobbled, stressed and panicked several times over the last 9 months but have bitten the bullet and it’s now all paid for, training is very much in progress and we go in 7 weeks!!!
I am sure it is going to be an amazing experience and with 8 of us supporting each other, I expect we will have some fun along the way.
Obviously I cannot do a challenge like this without trying to raise some money for charity and I have no hesitation in wanting to help the Katie Thorburn Foundation. Katie was the amazing, beautiful and inspirational daughter of my close friends, Jenny and Andy, who sadly lost her brave battle with cancer in April 2014, age 16. Her Foundation continues to supports 4 charities:
Macmillan Cancer Support
CLIC Sargent
When you wish upon a star
Little Princess Trust
I could only nominate one charity on this just-giving page and I chose Macmillan Cancer Support. If you would prefer to support one of the other 3 charities or to send your donation to me direct, it’s not a problem, please just contact me.
Any donations and support would be hugely appreciated. The trip is self-funded so I have no fixed target and any amount I can raise for charity will be a massive bonus.
Thanks very much and wish me luck!!!
Love
Sue
