Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am a podiatrist living in the Moray area, and I first heard of The Oaks Palliative Care Day Centre through some of my patients who have cancer.
Everyone hopes that they are never touched by cancer. But if you, or a family member or a friend were; are you aware of the immense help and support provided by The Oaks Palliative Care Day Centre? I wasn't.
The Oaks is a purpose built unit designed to provide specialist care and support for people in the Moray area who have cancer and other progressive illnesses. The centre focuses on the control of pain and symptoms with the aim of reducing suffering and improving quality of life.
Apart from the Day Unit; the centre provides specialist nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition advice, as well as spiritual and financial support. The staff work closely with GPs, Macmillan and district nurses, as well as with a palliative care consultant from Aberdeen who visits weekly.
A range of courses are offered that help patients, families and carers cope with the impact of a cancer diagnosis.
Now - here is the money bit. Do you know who pays for this wonderful facility? Maintenance of the building and the salaries of the full time staff are provided for by the NHS.
