At AXA, we're very proud of our history of fundraising for research into Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. We're especially proud of our people who've put their hearts and souls into not just fundraising, but also raising awareness of this terrible disease. And we think ourselves lucky to have over 2,500 of our employees trained as Dementia Friends, changing the way people think about dementia.
One person in the UK develops dementia every three minutes and numbers of people diagnosed are increasing with over two million estimated by 2051. This is why we want to support Insurance United Against Dementia on Insurance Day of Giving and put our collective weight against dementia.
Across the country our people will be taking part in activities to fund raise on the 8 November. And, because there's nothing like a bit of healthy competition when it comes to fundraising, we're going to be setting our leadership teams head to head in an 'it's a knockout' style challenge in the new year.
