Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
In May 2012 I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. After 6 weeks of increasing thirst, tiredness, and significant weight loss I was admitted to Sheffield Northern General hospital "a few days away from a diabetic coma".
Despite the initial shock and having to get used to injecting insulin for every meal, I can’t help but think how lucky I was to have such excellent care from all the Nurses, Doctors, my amazing family and my colleagues for going above and beyond in supporting me through this.
Now that the dust has settled I'd like to give something back! Those of you who are close to me know in the weeks running up to my time in hospital I really got into my running, I’ve decided this is one of the many things that I’m going to hold onto post diagnosis and aim to run in a series of events throughout my first year as a diabetic.
So far I’m training for the Bupa Great Yorkshire (10k) and the Bupa Great North Runs (Half marathon). I hope to finish the year by completing the Virgin London marathon which is being held the week before the anniversary of my diagnosis. That’s 26 ish miles people = 26 jelly babies, 1 per mile!
It’s not going to be easy. Building my strength and fitness back up is going to be an uphill struggle but the support from you all in raising much needed funds for Diabetes UK will help me push through those miles.
Please dont be shy! Leave your name and a brief message and Ill be able to thank you personally :-)
Again, I can’t thank you enough for all your support and really, it goes without saying that every little counts.
Love and cuddles,
Sooze
