Suzie's 3 Peak Challenge page

3 Peak Challenge · 27 June 2015
Hi everyone,
Thank you for stopping by my just giving page.
First let me tell you what I am doing. At the end of June I will be climbing the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales. I will be starting up in Scotland with Ben Nevis! After I have completed that mountain I will be heading down to the Lake District where I will climb Scafell Pike! From there, I will be heading to Wales to climb my last mountain Snowdon!
This is the biggest challenge I have ever done in my life. A couple of years ago I wouldn't of thought twice about doing something like this but after losing 5 stone!!!! (yes I am saying it again because I am so proud of myself!) I am the fittest I have ever been and I am looking at this as a personal challenge as well as an opportunity to raise money for my daughter's school, Vyners, and a charity close to my heart Asthma UK.
Vyners is my daughter's High School and like any parent I want her to develop to the best of her ability and I want the school to be able to encourage and support that development. Below is a bit about what your money will go towards:
We are splitting funds raised between The Friends Of Vyners School (75%) and Asthma UK (25%). The focus of the school fundraising effort this year is to purchase 50 new Chromebooks for students to use in lessons for collaborative and independent research tasks. These Chromebooks power up in less than eight seconds as opposed to the ageing laptops that can take up to ten minutes and therefore lesson time is used much more effectively. They also provide an excellent platform for Google Classroom which is a big push for the school this year. We are also aiming to replace computers in Art, Music and Technology classrooms and are currently exploring Apple Macs alongside PCs.
As most of you may know over the years I have been in and out of hospital on many occasions with my two daughters due to Asthma. Very scary times and although we have been lucky not many are and this is my way of saying thank you to Asthma UK and to give something back so other families have the opportunity of being just as lucky.
Suzanne and Steve Fenwick, my fellow 3 peak team members, are the parents of an ex-student from Vyners who recently lost his life to asthma while away at university. His younger brother attends Vyners School. Since this happened, we have found out that 3 people a day die of asthma and research is funded by above charity. It does not get the support as much as some of the other national charities. In addition, another ex-Vyners student lost her life to Asthma just before Christmas so supporting this charity has been fully endorsed by all.
I did not know that my fellow team members were the parents of the boys who lost his life but I can now say I am proud to be part of their team and raise money in memory of their son.
We will be starting at Ben Nevis, moving straight on to Scafell Pike and finishing at Snowdon. To find out more visit the school website or e-mail us on 3Peaks@vyners.hillingdon.sch.uk
