Story

An FA Cup run from Newcastle Benfield to Wembley - Guaranteed

The FA Cup is 143 Years old and for many footbal fans, it remains the most exciting competition in the world. While Saturday 16th August is the start of the high profile Premier League season, for teams in the lower divisions it was the Extra Preliminary round and the start, or end of thier team's FA Cup Dreams.

For us it is also the begining of our journey, Myself (Malcolm) my mates Wayne, Pete and Mac as we are going to be following the FA Cup from the Extra.

We came up with the idea at the end of last season wanting to get more involved with the cup but wanted it to mean something too. So our journey starts with Newcastle Benfield v Penrith AFC. We would like to make clear we are paying for our own travel and costs and any monies raised will all go directly to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

I myself have even given up smoking so I can afford to commit to the challenge, at least one of us will be at every game, wherever it is! I was smoking 30 a day and know this is more important and its going to improve my health too!!

Sir Bobby launched his Foundation in 2008 to help find effective ways to detect and treat cancer.  It funds projects, including the clinical trials of new drugs, that directly benefit patients from across the North East and Cumbria and which contribute significantly to international research into cancer.

I lost my dad to cancer and Mac lost his dad and his twin sister, like so many people we all have reasons for wanting to support this cancer charity.

We're all looking forward to spending time together watching the game we love and going to new grounds all over the country, capturing the energy, the excitement of this wonderful competition and at the same time rasing funds in aid of such a worthy cause!

There are 14 fixtres between August 16th til the final at Wembley on May 30th.

We will be keeping people updated with our journey on this page and via twitter @sweetfacup

Full details of the fantastic work carried out by the foundation is available here http://sirbobbyrobsonfoundation.org.uk/ but the paragraph below, taken direct from their website, will give you an overview as to the importance of their work, and why we want to help them raise vital funds.

The Foundation funds projects within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that directly benefit cancer patients from across north east England and Cumbria – and which also contribute significantly to international research into the disease.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
