My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Swimathon raises money mainly for local Charities, (and other Charities supported by Rotary International), as listed below.

On the 10th March 2012 as a family team of six, we took part in the 2012 Swimathon. The aim was to complete as many lengths as possible in 55minutes. Only one of us could swim the 25 metre length at any one time. We achieved 151 lengths.

Whilst this event is not perhaps not as physically challenging as some, the cause is just as great so please be as generous as you can.

Age UK in Milton Keynes

Age UK Milton Keynes is the new name for Age Concern Milton Keynes. In general this charity looks to improve the quality of life for older people. Money is required to fund an Information and Advice worker to be based in a shop, a ‘Drop in facility.’ (Charity no 1079773)

City Counselling Centre

The aim of this charity is to help those suffering hardship or distress by providing counselling and practical advice. This advice is provided free or at below cost with a request for a donation to defray expenses. The Centre requires funds for their drop in centre which is a sort of A&E for people in crisis. Milton Keynes Museum

The Museum is located at Stacey Hill Farm. Extensive displays portray the history and development of the North Buckinghamshire and South Northamptonshire area. The museum is visited by over 20,000 people per year of all ages and backgrounds and is manned by 183 volunteers. The museum wish to erect a ‘Dutch barn’ to provide storage for old agricultural equipment, which is currently outdoors. MK Museum Website

REMAP

Remap seeks to help disabled people by promoting the use of technology to meet their needs and by providing specialised equipment designed for their particular circumstances. The charity is manned by retired professional engineers who work with local medical professionals to custom build devices to assist the disabled. The 6 engineers in Milton Keynes have their own tools and these need to be upgraded, replaced or repaired. REMAP Website

The Mayors' Charity
Alan Richards has selected two charities, The Rifles Care for Casualties  and SNAP:
The Rifles Care for Casualties is an appeal that gives the severely wounded, their
families and the families of our fallen Riflemen the support, the inspiration
and the means to rebuild their lives and make the best of their futures. MK SNAP
provides real work and development life skills training to vulnerable adults
with Learning and Physical difficulties who are excluded from mainstream
learning. Money raised will be used to help acquire a minibus. SNAP Website

Willen Hospice

We have always included Willen as one of our beneficiaries. They are well known for the excellent care they provide in the Milton Keynes area. Any money from Swimathon would be used to fund attendance at the Day Hospice. A week’s attendance for one patient would cost £3,750. Willen Hospice Website
