Well 'Team Swoffers' has done it! Having undertaken to reach great heights this year and put something back into our community we have completed the 3 Peaks Challenge! So ... at midday on Saturday we began ... Ben Nevis (4408 feet), a night time ascent of Scafell Pike (3209 feet) in the Lake District and finally Snowdon (3560 feet) in 24 hours! A flight back to Guernsey yesterday evening and we are all in the office this morning!! Everyone is mobile although the stairs are proving to be today's challenge!
It was an incredibly hard challenge not helped by the adverse weather on Snowdon (thankfully our guide allowed us to complete it!) and the dark, almost vertical climb of Scafell Pike.
Well, we are still aiming to raise as much money as we can for Les Bourgs Hospice. The ambitious redevelopment of The Hospice is well underway and of the £4 million needed to complete the building, £2.6 million remains outstanding. You may not know that the Hospice receives no States funding and that no charge is made to stay there. It relies totally on the community for its existence. Founded in 1990 it has helped countless Islanders and their families and we aim to ensure this invaluable support is maintained. Do visit www.lesbourgshospice.org.gg to learn more.
Please dig deep - your support was a true motivator when the pain and the sleep deprivation kicked in. More than once someone was heard to say 'it's for a great cause' or 'just think of the Hospice' or 'think of how generous everyone has been' It is a great cause and one that will undoubtedly touch all of us one day.
