Story

Thanks for visiting our Race for Life page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online - it's quick, easy and totally secure.

Event

Pretty Muddy Finsbury Park, London, 5k run, 11.00 am on Saturday 20 September 2014.
Everybody's welcome to come and cheer us on! Also, it will probably be pretty funny to watch... you can follow us along the track to see us struggle with obstacles and mud!

This is my first ever charity run, while Abi is a pro by now (this year she  ran the New York City Half Marathon for the Central YMCA's children’s programme!

Why am I doing it?

Because I already support Cancer Reasearch UK by donating regularly, and I wanted to do more. Also, in the past few months I've become more active, going to the gym 2-3 times a week and feeling much better. So I thought, why not exploit this newly-adopted active lifestyle for a good cause?

Events like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring us, we can unite and create a force that cancer can't ignore.

Gift Aid it!

If you're a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box as this will increase your donation by at least 25% at no cost to you.

Sponsor us now, and we can become cancer's worst nightmare.

One day we will beat cancer. Help us make it sooner.

In memory of...

Finally, there is one more reason why I am doing this. I am dedicating this race to my late aunt Marisa, who lost her fight against cancer in 1996. It feels unreal that almost 20 years have passed, as the pain is till so fresh in my heart.

I was only 11 when my beloved zia Marisa passed away, and I often wonder how different my life would have been if cancer hadn't taken her away from us so soon.

She was an active, loving person. She was a nurse, she had raised two kids alone ever since an accident made her a widow when she was only 24 years old. She was the strongest, liveliest person I knew but, by the end, she was a ghost of the woman she used to be. I don't want to remember her pale, frail, and with a wig. I want to remember her when she used to take me and my cousin Luca out for pizza, or to the mountains, or to see the horses.

I like to think that my innate passion for travel comes from her. She LOVED travelling the world. She also loved roller-coasters, and so do I. I like to think that, if I am who I am, is also thanks to her.

So, this is for you, zia Marisa. For all the travels we didn't get to do together and for all the roller-coaster rides we didn't get to go on.

I will do my best to help fight, and BEAT, this awful disease.

Cancer, we're coming to get you.
