Place2Be is a children's mental health charity that works to improve the emotional wellbeing of children and young people. We help them to cope with wide-ranging and often complex social issues including bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma.

Story

I'm running a series of introduction to mindfulness meditation courses over the next 6 months to raise funds for Place2Be.

Mindfulness is paying attention to our moment by moment experience in a way that is non-judgemental, accepting and kind. It's a great life skill to develop and it's certainly my anchor through life's ups and downs.

Come along and learn a 'tool-box' of techniques to help you live your life more fully in the moment and make a donation for Place2Be.

Many of us tend to spend much of our time living on 'automatic pilot'. We can be so caught up in the busyness of life that we don't pay attention or fully experience what is actually happening or how our habitual thought patterns are driving our thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

Mindfulness helps us create space between our thoughts so we can see them more clearly. This allows us to respond wisely to situations or challenges from a place of awareness rather than reacting in our habitual way.

Research shows that practising mindfulness meditation can help:

  • Reduce anxiety and stress
  • Improve focus and attention
  • Improve our general feelings of well-being and happiness
  • Reduce the impact of chronic pain
