The Tour De Grouse 2009 35 riders cycling for Multiple Sclerosis Society in
Money is still coming in and each pound is very much appreciated - so please do not stop! Overall, on behalf of all the riders, we have cleared £15,000 which means over £19,000 including the tax which is recovered back. That is a fantastic result on behalf of all the riders and the MS Society for which a big thank you is desrved by each and every donor. What a difference this will make to research and also to respite care. We have now comforably
What a day! Even with the rain - and there was lots of it; even with the pain - and there was lots of it; it was the company of the riders and support group and the scenery, together with the thought of MS sufferers may go through which made for a memorable day. My sincere thanks go to all who contributed, whether financially or who helped in other ways.
For those reading this for the first time, the Tour de Grouse 2005 went from the Corran Ferry to Ardnamurchan Peninsula via Glenfinnan and back on the low road - 140 miles in all for those who completed the route. Regrettably, I had had problems with thigh muscels and felt unable to manage the middle section so 'only' managed a cool 100 miles. boy was it good to get back for the 7pm ferry having caught the one earlier on at 7am!
The rest of this note is as before..... The opportunity to donate is still very muchopen and any contributions will be gratefully received.
There are approx. 10,500 people in alone with MS which is more per capita than anywhere else in the world! Because of this, is known as the Hotspot for MS. MS is the most common neurological condition affecting young adults and is most commonly diagnosed between the ages of 20-40.
I feel responsible for the Tour fundraising this year as I persuaded the other riders to adopt this charity. I had been inspired after reading a biography of Jackie du Pre, one of the great cellists we have been blessed with and who tragically died from the disease in 1987. She was struck down in her prime by multiple sclerosis. Reading the biography moved me to tears at the waste of an exceptional talent; this was all the more pertinent since I knew some of those mentioned in the book and my sister-in-law also suffers from the same disease.
I chose to support research and respite care. The research is well organised and is desparately important. For those who have the disease already and also for their families, the fantastic respite care service the society provides at the only centre for the country, at Leuchie by North Berwick, deserves our support.
The Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland is ’s largest voluntary organisation dedicated to supporting everyone whose life has been affected by Multiple Sclerosis. The Society receives no government funding so is entirely reliant on voluntary contributions in able to continue funding their vital work. If you choose reward the cyclists for their effort, every £100 raised would fund 3 hours of Research at one of our three main research centres in or it could part fund a new specially built mattress for Leuchie House.
Every pound you can give and every mile we cycle will take the Society that little bit closer to the ultimate aim: beating MS forever! Thanks for taking the time to visit .
