Hello friends & family,
Another year has passed and this years Tour De Grouse is looming on the horizon again. Over the last few years we have raised over £70,000 for charities around Scotland.
On May 21st, we are raising money for RP Fighting Blindess by cycling over 120 miles in one day in the Cairngorms.
This year we are raising money for a charity called RP Fighting Blindness. Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is the name given to a group of diseases that affect eyesight. A friend of mine Mary Findlay who herself suffers from the condition explains what it is like to live with RP......
.... Mary Findlay, aged 48, a secondary teacher in Dundee, suffers from a type of RP that is passed down
through every generation of her family.
“It was distressing to watch my grandmother and then my father gradually lose their eyesight. Now
I have to watch the same thing happening to my two sisters. Three out of my four children have
inherited the condition. My husband, Kevin, and I consoled ourselves that this would not affect
them too much until middle-age. Then we were devastated to discover that my daughter Rachel’s
RP had mutated into a much more severe eye condition. Since the age of 11 she has had repeated
surgery to save her sight.
Now we are determined to help RP Fighting Blindness raise funds for research into this condition
which is the biggest cause of inherited blindness and which has robbed generations of their eyesight.
For the first time there is hope that a cure will be found. My family are overwhelmed by the
decision of “Tour de Grouse” to dedicate the funds raised in 2011 to RP Fighting Blindness and
will do everything we can to support the cyclists and to make their phys ical and psychological
endurance reap benefits for RP research.”

I think that Mary's words give a good idea of the difficulty this disease imposes and thus the importance of trying to work towards a cure. Any donation you can make will be greatly appreciated. Also if you're a UK tax payer the lovely Mr Gideon 'Georgie Porgie' Osborne MP has agreed to return any tax to the charity. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Cheers everyone. I'll report back when I've finished to let you know who I got on!
Cheers all
