On Sunday 5th September Heidi, Nicky & Lisa will be taking part in the Tri for Life, Eton College Rowing Centre Dorney Lake, Nr Windsor as part of a Triathlon team, consisting of a:
NIcky - 400m swim; Heidi - 20k cycle & Lisa - 5k run all in aid of the Emily Ash Trust.
The following story tells you why the charity was formed & its aims for the children.....
When Emily became ill, close family and friends were desperate to help but as they couldn't do anything medically they decided to channel their energies into something else. Hence, the Emily Ash Trust was founded in 2002, aiming to raise awareness of the need for more bone marrow donors and funds to enable the lives of parents, carers and siblings of sick children to enjoy some sort of normality during such a difficult time.
The primary aim of the Trust is to improve the lives of children and young adults suffering with cancer.
Whilst excellent medical assistance is provided through the care network, it was clear that this terrible disease had far wider effects on the sufferer and the family supporting those who are sick. Inspired by Emily who had been suffering from leukaemia for some years, it was decided to help raise funds to improve the quality of life for these children and their families.
We provide help and resources with the aim of improving the quality of life of children and young adults suffering with cancer and their families. The Trust focuses its help in various ways, including:
- Laptops & walkie-talkies - enabling communication during treatment
- Two free holiday homes in Battle, near Hastings
- Pamper Days at Topshop - London
- Pamper Days at The Royal Marsden
- Sibling days
