Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Tina here - I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in 1994.This is an inherited heart muscle disease and biggest cause of sudden death in under 35s. It is thought to affect as many as 1 in 500. I was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) in 2002 having had a cardiac arrest.
Afraid, uncertain, and wanting answers I turned to the Cardiomyopathy Association (CMA) for help. The CMA are a small charity who not only offer support and advice to sufferers and their families, but also raise awareness among health professionals and the general public, fund clinical nurse specialists, and organise national conferences for doctors and nurses to provide education and promote excellence in clinical services - to name but a few things.
It costs over £410,000 to run the charity each year. And as the charity gets NO Government funding it relies solely on the generosity of its supporters and fundraising.
Alison is my longstanding suffering friend! I am very pleased and grateful that she agreed to undertake this 'stroll' (we will be walking the 26 mile route as running it with cardiomyopathy would be inadvisable) with me on behalf of the CMA.
