Story

The Centre for Immunodeficiency is dedicated to development of improved therapies for patients with inherited disorders of the immune system through high quality science and clinical care.

Primary immunodeficiency disorders (PIDs) form a group of rare disorders that vary widely in severity. Those at the mild end of the spectrum can predispose infants and children to frequent minor infections, while the more severe ones lead to life-threatening infections and other life-limiting complications. Failure to diagnose and treat PID can lead to serious chronic illness, permanent organ damage or even death. Experts have estimated that many cases of PID remain undiagnosed in the UK.

The Centre for Immunodeficiency is a Jeffrey Modell Foundation Referral Centre, combining the clinical and research facilities of Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital.
