Story
Tahiti monarchs are beautiful, friendly songbirds and one of the most endangered species on the planet. There are only 10 breeding pairs left, clinging to existence in a steep wooded valley in French Polynesia.
It is now breeding season and local children, volunteers and Manu (BirdLife in French Polynesia) are giving this year’s chicks, their parents and fledglings all the support they can by planting trees and controlling rats, an invasive species which eats chicks and eggs. But it is raining hard in Tahiti and new threats from killer ants and other invasive predators are emerging.
Today in Tahiti birds are nesting and eggs are hatching but we need to make the forest safe for the fledglings, please donate and make the forest safe for the fledglings.
HOW YOUR MONEY WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The most important conservation activity is controlling non-native predatory rats by running bait stations within the birds' territories. This is a highly effective and low cost solution, and proven to work.
£240 will run sixteen rat baiting-stations for the next three months as eggs hatch.
£713 will protect a pair of Tahiti Monarch, and their chicks, during the peak breeding season.
£1425 will protect a pair of Tahiti Monarch, and their fledglings, for a whole year.
Or any other amount is very gratefully recieved.
