Racing rickshaws across southeast Asia!! · 16 October 2011

We are the largest regional charity in Sussex and Surrey working to prevent youth homelessness and support children and young people’s emotional and mental health. We do this by providing a safe home, increasing life skills and self-confidence, and improving emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Story

About a year ago, we were inspired to consider our life goals ... a light bulb moment occured and thus we came to two significant conclusions:

- Life is too short - unless you inspire yourself to be daring, life will simply drift on by .... work, sleep, work, pub, sleep, hangover, work, sleep...Before you know it, you are knackered and can't remember what you did last month.

- We can do more for others - we are very fortunate with our lives, friends and family. If we always look inward then you never realise that others are less fortunate. They need our help.

Thus inspired and full of resolve, we embarked on 2011- the year of grand adventure and daring-do!

In January we raced motorised rickshaws (tuk tuks) across the amazing landscape of India. With the help of friends, family and colleagues, we raised over £2000 for charity.

Now with the desire to continue to do even more, we are off again - this time undertaking a challenge that has never been done before; trying to get a tuk-tuk from Jakarta in Indonesia through to Bangkok in Thailand. This means we will have to brave jungles, shipping across pirate infested seas, bad roads, borders and of course, nutty traffic.

Why do this? Well, again, it will be an experience that we will remember forever...but also, and more importantly, it is again a method for raising money for those who are less fortunate than ourselves and for causes that inpact on the world around us. This is where we need your kind and generous help. We are fund-raising for two charities.

- The offical race charity is Birdlife international - they do amazing work in the jungles of Sumatra, helping to stop the destruction of the forests and the extinction of the native wildlife - we have to raise at least £500 for them - http://www.birdlife.org/

- Once we have reached our target for Birdlife, we are also fundraising for a more local charity, Sussex Central YMCA. They operate a wide range of services that support and help the less fortunate. Services include those for young people, families and the homeless - http://www.sussexcentralymca.org.uk/

We have two pages for our chosen charities, simply choose the one that you would like your kind donation to go to and give whatever you are able.

You can follow our planning, journey and progress on our team website - www.teamtallyho.co.uk

Love to you all

Sarah and Simon
