To raise money for the charity that I work for, Buddhafield, I have pledged to not buy anything for three months!

I am making up my own rules, and they are... 

1) I can buy food, travel expenses, and essentials like toothpaste. 

2) Anything else I buy, I will donate the same amount to Buddhafield.

I wanted to see if it would be possible so I've already been doing this project for two months before asking you to sponsor me. I have listed all the things I've bought - and donated the same amount of money that they cost - on the donate list. So far so good, other than one jumper from a charity shop and lots of presents for friends, I've done pretty well so far...

It's been a great spiritual practise, and I've saved a few hundred quid for my building's new roof, a real bonus. In fact I've leaned so much about all the unnecessary gumph I was buying (mainly from charity shops) I'm thinking about carrying on until Christmas. Now then, dillemma, opinions welcome; I got tar all over my bikini and the ethical question is, is a new swimming costume a luxury or an essential...

What would you be donating to?

In 2006 Buddhafield bought 17 acres of gorgeous land in Dartmoor National Park called Frog Mill. It cost £85,000 and Buddhafield has done very well to pay off over £50,000 but there is still £35,000 to go. The land is used to hold some of Buddhafield's larger retreats and has a salmon spawning river, the Blackaton Brook flowing through it and is home to kingfishers, dippers, otters and a host of other wildlife. There are some photos on-line atwww.flickr.com/photos/fwbo/sets/72157594390868206/  

The Buddhafield collective has a heartfelt desire to contribute to protecting land, and enabling people to build caring relationships with the earth that supports us. The need to preserve healthy soil and habitats where wildlife can thrive grows ever more urgent in our time.

Buddhafield is looking for 150 people to raise £200 each, by the end of 2011, in creative and exciting ways - like I am doing - so that Frog Mill will be paid off and we’ll be free to go on to other things.
