Story

Update having completed the Great North Run 19/9/10

An amazingly moving occasion witnessing 54,000 runners all assembled along Newcastle's central motorway ready to tackle 13.1miles of uphill road-pounding.  It was a great race, but elbow to elbow all the way, too much energy expended weaving through the competition rather than running in a straight line, and we came to a total standstill on a few occasions to let ambulances through and at water stations.  So despite wiping 8mins off last year's time, imagine my disappointment in not smashing that sub-2hr goal... Just have to train harder next year! Thanks so much to everyone for all your emotional support as well as the hugely generous sponsorship,  and particular thanks to those who pinged me messages of encouragement on the day. You know who you are; that really kept my spirits up, especially when it started torrentialising at the finish line and all I wanted to do was blub!  Thanks too and well done to the rest of Team Bones: I hope we're helping make a difference  xx

Update 12 September 2010 needing cake

"Be in no doubt there is a bit of a hill," said Richard.

Well thankyou.  We know that now. And it was about three miles of very very steep hill, right in the middle stretch.  The professionals call this kind of mental strength torture "Kenyan Hill Training"; we decided it was just Harrier Intimidation.  There were no bananas or superheroes in this race.  Just athletes.  Like ourselves, obviously.

At least there were some downhill bits to make up lost time....Nicky, Rich, Jen & I all got respectable times in the end. My race number was 34 and I was the 34th woman across the line. Howzabout that?!

And it was a beautiful sunny day.

Thankyou for your continued support...not long to go now xxx

Update 12 June 2010

Just signed up for the Wallington 10k (Sunday 12 September...a week before the GNR)....so that's 25 race miles you're sponsoring me for....3 runs for the price of 1!...THANKYOU! x

Update 9 June 2010 @ 23:00

"Ohhhhhhhhhhh me lads, you should've seen us gannin
Passing the folks along the road
And all of them were starin'
All the lads and lasses there
They all had smilin' faces
Gannin along the Scotswood Roooooooooooooad
To see the Blaydon races"

Hey, it takes more than a day's lashing rain to dampen Geordie spirits, even if the lycra was a tad soggy from the off.  But that rain made me run faster than ever before...hurdling over the water jumps and home in 49 minutes! WOOHOO!  Thanks for the incredible support to date...it's been quite overwhelming...and keep making those encouraging noises all summer, please...it all helps.  And well done to Nicky, Rich & Jen...PBs all round! xT

6 June 2010

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am pounding the pavements of the North East this summer to raise funds for Bone Cancer Research Trust.  Team Bones are doing various fundraising events this year and I would like to make a bulky contribution to their pot with a bit of help from you.  BCRT carry out vital research into bony abnormalities, and also support families of those with related conditions.

I'm taking part in two events: the warm-up is the Blaydon Race (10k) on Wednesday 9 June 2010, and the big sweaty one is the Great North Run (half-marathon) on Sunday 19 September 2010.  About 19 race miles in total.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig as deep as you can and donate now.

Thanks in advance.  I really appreciate your support, and so does BCR.
