Story

Hello everyone :D

I am Kenzie, I am hoping you could take a moment to read my story.

I am hoping to raise vital funds for a very special hospital that has helped me through a lot over the past 4 years and still in years to come. Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

I was referred to Alder Hey 'the land of remarkable people' when I developed a limp when I was 4.

My Mum & Dad had no idea why I was limping and why it wouldn't go away. I was always an active child who loved nothing more than football, rugby, golf ( anything with a ball involved really). They had me to the doctors who sent me for an x-ray ( a picture of my bones). Within 2 days of my funny bones having pictures taken my doctor was at our front door asking could we get down to the surgery as a problem had been found with my right hip and we need to discuss it further.

When we arrived at the doctors he explained to me that he can see why my leg is sore and he knows why?!?.

He went on to explain to my parents that an urgent referral had been made to Alder Hey Children's Hospital and that I have a condition called Perthes Disease.

Perthes Disease is a condition that affects the femur (thighbone) due to a lack of blood supply the head of the femur dies and the bone becomes soft and breakable. (Basically treated as though it's a foreign body being broken down).

At first I was placed on a wait and watch where I had to go for regular check ups and restrictions placed on any high impact sports. I.e. football, running, jumping, etc.

I went back to Alder Hey for another x-ray and to see my specialist, he confirmed the worst that I would need surgery due to the bone getting worse. I underwent surgery (varius osteotomy) and was placed in a hip spica for recovery. I underwent intense physiotherapy and hydrotherapy to help aid and strengthen my affected leg when I was taken out of the spica, due to muscle waste through no movement for months. It took me another good few months to get back on my feet but I got there.

I recently underwent more surgery just before Christmas 2014. I was brave and did really well. Everyone was very proud :)

I was back at physio on Thursday 19th February 2015, I still have muscle damage and weakness in the affected Perthes leg after the last operation and I am looking to get it strong again.

I am looking to take part in a sponsored walk on Sunday 17th May 2015 at 10:00am at Knowsley Safari Park. I will be attempting to do the walk without my wheelchair ( even though it will be on standby just incase ). :)

If anyone could donate anything it would mean the world. I really can't Thank you enough for taking you're time to read my story and hopefully help me raise all I can along the way.

Thanks again and the littlest of donations can amount to alot (please help).
