September 18 sees the launch of a very special cycling event in Cumbria - The Jennings Rivers Ride. It’s a series of three bike rides starting and finishing in Keswick and following the route of the devastating floods of 2009.
The reason these rides are special is, unlike other cycle sportives, these have been organised by a local charity - Cumbria Community Foundation - and the entrance fee will raise money for good Cumbrian causes.
If that wasn’t enough, we've also chosen to support the Great North Air Ambulance Service – ensuring that those unfortunate individuals who are either seriously ill or injured receive the best possible treatment in the shortest possible time. Helicopters alone do not save lives, however as a vehicle they do provide a high speed platform and one which can get to difficult locations in and around the Lake District where a road vehicle might struggle. Everyone’s a winner!
Our team will be cyling The Middle Distance Event - great for anyone looking for a testing but achievable cycling challenge. The team includes Alison Allen, Sara Deans, Julie Walsh, Leanne Donald Charlotte Hill and Colin Campbell. We’ll cycle close to 40 miles along lovely roads in the lakes, heading out towards Cockermouth, crossing the Ouse Bridge and returning via the rebuilt Lorton Bridge and finishing with a climb over Whinlatter Pass.
We need your support - please dig deep and donate now.
