Story

UPDATE - Challenge completed.

We all managed 5 laps each totalling 250km in 24 hours 1 minute and 3 seconds. Thanks for all your support.

We are five forum members of the popular video gaming website Eurogamer who want to show that there is a positive side to the gaming world by raising funds for the SpecialEffect charity.

SpecialEffect help people with disabilities overcome their problems so as they too can enjoy their gaming hobby and give them a chance to escape into a gaming world.

Team Eurogamer are running in this year's "Thunder Run" - a 24 hour running relay consisting of multiple laps of a 10km cross country course. One of us has to be running on the course at all times - day & night. http://www.tr24.co.uk/

Team Eurogamer (@TeamEurogamer) comprises of -

AccidentProne - Matt, 41. I've been a keen gamer since the early 80's and until fairly recently, a keen drinker, smoker and eater of all the pies. Decided to give running a go after a drunken bet in a curry house and haven't looked back. To the surprise of everyone (myself included), I've since run a bunch of half marathons and have just completed my third full marathon. Might even pluck up the courage to run an ultra one day...

ReGuRgIt8oR (aka Gurgy) - Steve, 44, family man and long time gamer. early consoles/computers include Atari 2600, Vic 20 and GameBoy. Vivid memories of playing on my Vic 20 for so long that the power brick melted. Been running for just over 4 years and have progressed to full marathon distance and even as far as an Ultra Marathon.

Rhythm - Dan, 37. I've been backing the wrong gaming system for over 30 years - Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, SNES, Gamecube, Xbox, PS3... but regardless I love games as much now as I ever did. School tricked me into thinking sports were evil so I never considered myself an "active" person but I've always commuted by bike, skated and been a fan of hiking... and after looking for ways to reduce travel costs to work now I run long distances :-)

SaucyGeoff - David, 27. It started with countless hours of Championship Manager 97/98, and since then the highlights include a PS1, a Dreamcast and multiple 360s. After a few failed attempts, the encouragement and competition from Nike+ challenges on the EG forum really helped me get into running, and importantly stick at it! Since then, I’ve lost 3 stone, completed races at all distances and even joined a running club.

Zomoniac - Joe, 29. All began with a Mega Drive and a copy of Sonic, and I was instantly hooked. Unhealthy love for Shenmue and acquiring consoles. Probably the only person left who wishes there were new plastic guitar games. I started running thanks to the inspirational and competitive Nike+ challenges on the EG forum, and since joining in I have seen progress go from not being able to run 2km to getting to marathon distance. Clearly not all that time in my 10 years on EG has been wasted :)
