On Sunday 11th May 2014 "Pimp my Strides" are taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk. The team is made up of;
Steve Brydie (team captin)
Dan Hughes
Mark Hall
Andy Hobern
Gaz Clark-Walters
Sam Murray
It's a 26 mile walk and we have decided to do it to raise money in memory of Sam's old friend Bob's son, Jacob Wright for The Lily Foundation.
Jacob was born in Dec 2010. In his short life he had multiple health problems including severe epilepsy and global developmental delay. In Feb 2012 his family were told he had Leigh's disease, a mitochondrial disease that had no treatment or cure. On the 20th April 2012 at just 16 months of age, only 501 days after he entered into this world he had to leave. His death is incredibly sad and his parents miss him so much but they are determined to work towards ensuring Jacob's Story is one of hope, where people come together to help the charities that helped him and his family. So they set up a fundraising group called Team Jacum.
That's where we come in. We've joined Team Jacum to raise money for The Lily Foundation. This incredible charity was started by another family who lost a child to this genetic condition, and they aim to do three main things:
1) Support families like Jacob through the process of diagnosis and living with mitochondrial disease. From information and emotional support, to holidays where precious memories can be made.
2) To raise awareness of this relatively common but unheard of group of diseases both with the public, medical community and politicians.
3) To fund research to find a cure, so one day families don't have to sit in a room like Jacob's parents and be told "your child is going to die and there is nothing that can be done"
So please donate if you can and help us make a difference in a very special little boys memory.
Thank You
