Imagine being told your child needs to go into intensive care to save their life; Imagine then being told that there is no guarantee that it will save their life; Imagine knowing that every second with your child could be your last; Imagine the things that run through your head; Imagine all this happening in the middle of the night; Imagine realising that you can't stay with your child; Imagine knowing that something might  happen when you are at home, and you won't be there for them when they need it most.

 

At your lowest ebb a nurse then hands you a key to a place that's warm and friendly where you can stay whilst your child is in intensive care. A place that is just a couple of minutes from their bed, with a phone linked directly to their nurse who you can call at anytime. You can be called if you're needed 24/7. A place where you can make some food, sit on a sofa and have a little bit of normality when your world has been turned upside down.  A place run by amazing pepole who care about you and your story.

 

Well that's exactly what the Sick Children's Trust did for us when Jacob was in intesive care, fighting for his life. It's what they do for families throughout the UK, keeping them near their sick children when they need to be. Children with cancer or any serious illness or injury who are in hospital for months at a time; Children who have to be treated in hospitals miles from home; Children who like Jacob are fighting for their lives.
