<p><span style="color: #000000;">For the last few years, Penguin have organised a global charity </span><span style="color: #000000;">walk to raise funds for Room to Read. It's not a marathon by any means, but any funds raised from us walking 10 miles around London go to help improve the lives and education of children in the developing world.<br /></span></p>
<p>Since its inception in 2000, Room to Read has impacted the lives of over 4.1 million children by:<sup id="cite_ref-11" class="reference"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Room_to_Read#cite_note-11"><span> </span><span> </span></a></sup></p>
<ul>
<li>Constructing 1,128 schools;</li>
<li>Establishing 10,000 libraries;</li>
<li>Publishing 433 new local language children's titles representing over 4.1 million books;</li>
<li>Donating over 3.3 million English-language children's books;</li>
<li>Funding 8,944 long-term girls' scholarships;</li>
<li>Establishing 179 computer and language labs.</li>
</ul>

<p><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">After sponsoring the building of a new pre-school in Sri Lanka, Penguin raised £8000 for them through the walk last year, which enabled them to publish local language books to stock the Penguin pre-school's library and many others.</span></span></p>
