Story
We’re running the Edinburgh Marathon Festival in May 2016 for Parkinson’s UK, a charity which is leading the way in supporting those with the condition. Their mission is to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's through cutting edge research, information, support and campaigning. I lost my father at the end of last year after him suffering Parkinson’s for the last few years of his life so I know how terribly difficult this condition is to live with. Unfortunately my father-in-law has also recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, so the decision to run for them was a no-brainer.
I'm not entirely sure why I thought it would be a good idea to sign up for a marathon though as I'm not a runner and never have been. So that could be a bit of a problem.
As some of you know will know I started cycling earlier this year as I thought it was about time I shaped up a bit but mostly because I liked the idea of doing a sport where you could sit down. This running malarkey is a very different prospect though, it's been pretty tough and a bit hurty so far, so I'm guessing 26.2 miles of it is going to be brutal for a non-running softie like me.
Happily though I’ve managed to conscript Sara and Harvey into running the Edinburgh 5K and & Max into doing the junior race. Like me they also excel at not running.
My training has already started (running through Monkton on a cold, wet, miserable night is no fun whatsoever) and will begin in the New Year for Sara and the boys.
It’s going to be a toughie for us all I’m sure but we’re hoping to raise as much as possible for Parkinson’s UK by completing our races so I really hope you can support us by making a donation.
Thank you so much!
