Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
You may or may not know my story.
10 years ago I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphocytes in blood cells. Having received chemotherapy and radiotherapy i have, touch wood, beaten it.
About 3 years ago I started to develop stiffness and lack of movement in my left side. I saw my GP, Haematologist, Oncologist and a Neurologist hoping to find out what was going on, thinking it was a result of treatment. Both my Haematologist and Oncologist thought it couldn't be from my cancer treatment and the Neurologist, who was head of the department, brushed me aside as having anxiety problems, which I must admit after everything I did have!
No one at any point suggested I could have Parkinson's and it took me 3 years of pushing to get a diagnosis from another Neurologist in the same hospital.
Everyone said that, due to my age, they didn't think it could be PD, but looking back at my symptoms over the three years - stiffness in left arm, hand and leg, anxiety, talking and lashing out in my sleep, walking strangely, over production of saliva - they were all possible signs of PD.
So here I am, 41 and wondering where the last 10 years have gone. I never took part in any cancer fundraising events but I am adamant that I will do something for Parkinson's. A cure is not far away, but even if they can only develop medication to alleviate the symptoms it would be a step towards a cure.
