Story
This October we will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895 metres.
We are doing it for an amazing cause. We want to leave a positive legacy. We are supporting 'Stand Up & Build' who work in Burundi, the third poorest country in the world and one which has been long-afflicted by civil war. We are helping to build a school and provide the local community with the skills to help re-build Burundi. Please visit their website: http://www.standupandbuild.org/
Don't worry - none of your donations pay for the climb - it all goes into building the school. It costs £25,000 to build a classroom block, £20,000 for a central school community hall, £15,000 for a library and £1,000 for a toilet block; all of which can be used by the local community. A teacher costs £500/year with Kirundi, French and English capabilities and £90 can sponsor a student for a year - typically £25 of this is for books. The charity gives all time in-kind – so your donation will make a difference where it matters.
Climbing Kilimanjaro will be the ultimate test of self determination, mental strength and physical fitness. Many months of intense training lie ahead as well as achieving our ambitious fundraising target.
Thank you so much for your support, please follow us as we continue to along our journey.
