I made it!!! Boy that was a hard ride and a week later my legs are still aching. 100 miles was a great milestone to reach and with over 2000 meters of climbing I am really pleased to have finished.
Many, many thanks to everyone who has donated to the Shakespeare Hospice and indeed to the Hospice staff who put on a superb event.
For those of you who like data ....
* 101 miles
* 7hrs 56mins riding time
* 8hrs 35mins total time
* 12.6 mph average speed

My Dad inspired me all my life to stay active, swimming, cycling and running. It led us to share many happy times together both training and competing in triathlons and running events and when I joined his old club Twickenham Cycling Club on my move to London he continued to encourage me to train and compete for fitness and health. I sorely miss that support and encouragement and in particular the humour Dad used to make the best of any perceived failure.
Dad's illness made me realise just how much places like the Shakespeare Hospice are needed and how hard they have to work to stay afloat. For the first time in my life it has given me a reason to undertake an activity to raise sponsorship and I am very grateful to anyone who responds to my plea for sponsorship as I take part in The Great Shakespeare Ride on Sunday 22nd August. I have risen to the challenge of the 100 mile ride and am looking to complete the event in 6.5 hours of riding time.
I have two friends, Lisa and Gail, who are also taking part and the rest of the family are doing their bit by cycling the 20 mile Leisure Ride.
Many, many thanks for any support you can spare.
Best Wishes
Barbara
Thank you for taking time to visit our Just Giving page. We created this page in memory of Geoffrey Vance who was a special and unique man.
Active all his life Geoff was unfortunately diagnosed with brain cancer in January 2010 and after being ill for a short time passed away on May 6th 2010.
Having worked so hard at keeping fit and healthy Geoff found the loss of mobility the hardest thing to bear and his regular visits to the Shakespeare Hospice helped him both with coming to terms with the illness and maintaining his sense of humour and we feel that he would have supported our decision to request donations and to target our fundraising efforts towards the hospice.
Many thanks for your contribution it is much appreciated.
Best wishes
Team Vance
