Team YOY : Helping Helen & Douglas House
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We set out below a little bit about what we are doing, and why we are doing it.
Team YOY (why oh why are we letting ourselves in for this!) is a group of friends from Witney Lakes gym who took on a Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for children and young people with life-shortening illnesses. The challenge involved "bagging" the summits of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within a period of 24 hours (ask anyone who has attempted it, this is no mean feat). We are happy to report that the objective was successfully achieved on the afternoon of Saturday 12 September 2009. For full details pf the "lost 24 hours" you will need to wait for the book or film to be released!
We aim to raise £10,000 for Helen & Douglas House, a hospice based in Oxford that cares for and supports over 300 children, young adults and their families every year.
We all have our own ideas of what a hospice is and Helen & Douglas House, a registered charity providing respite and end of life care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions, probably changes most of them! Helen & Douglas House is a bright, vibrant and positive place, where the emphasis is on living life to the full, even when that life may be short. It’s about depth of life and not length, about having as much fun as you can in a great environment! In the current financial climate we want to do our bit to help this charity keep providing its amazing support. It costs over £4.5 million a year to run Helen & Douglas House but over 90% of this, unfortunately needs to be funded through voluntary contributions, i.e. from people like us. £10,000 is enough to pay for medical supplies at both houses for 9 months.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
The challenge involved many of the team "digging deep" in order to overcome discomfort and pain in order to achieve the team goal, so please also dig deep and donate now.
