Bupa Great North Run 2012 · 16 September 2012 ·

The Northern Counties Kidney Research Fund raises funds and awards grants in the North of England for research into all aspects of kidney disease and its treatment. The Fund was established in 1970 following an appeal through the Newcastle Evening Chronicle to help with building a kidney preservation machine. The Fund is entirely voluntary and has no paid administrators or fund-raisers.

Story

I am running as part of Team BruntonFitch on behalf of the Northern Counties Kidney Research Fund. This is a small local charity run entirely by volunteers in the North East of England.

We have a friend who, at the age of 63, developed an ultra-rare kidney disease called atypical Haemolitic Uraemic Syndrome (aHUS). Fortunately, between the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, where she was treated successfully, and the Institute of Genetic Medicine at Newcastle University, there exists a de facto centre of excellence in the treatment of and research into this and other kidney diseases.

NCKRF helps  fund research posts there. It is a very worthy cause, so please give generously.
