Vivi's Venture Fire Walk! · 13 April 2013
Seven year old Vivi was diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy in 2008. This crippling condition, which causes delayed motor progress, affects all of her limbs with a particularly profound effect on her lower body, legs and feet.
In October last year, Vivi underwent a pioneering surgical procedure called ‘Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy’ (SDR). Intensive training to re-teach Vivi’s legs to walk is a post-surgery requirement, meaning that she has already begun working hard on an exercise programme that will last three years. There will be over twenty years of follow-up treatment after that.
All of this requires a continuous stream of funding.
When combined with the three years of post-surgical recommended intensive therapy, the SDR procedure costs around£75,000. That’s without even considering follow-up treatment after that. NHS funding was denied, so Vivi’s Venture is reliant on a constant rally of fundraising from Vivi’s family, friends and supporters.
We had the pleasure of meeting Vivi recently who is one very brave and inspiring young lady who you can't help falling in love with.
