Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. *see below for full details

Some of you may know, my husband and partner of 21 years, Lee Hobden, was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer earlier this year. It's his 2nd brush with the big bastard C, but this time it'll be a longer road to recovery. His diagnosis of Stage 4 Bowel Cancer, was discovered after a routine trip to the GP for a cough. Subsequent scans revealed a large tumour on the splenic flexure, which has nudged its way into his spleen, pancreas, & Gerota's fascia (whatever the heck that is!) as well as suspicious nodules near the peritoneum & a mass in his lung yet to be connected or otherwise. He had no symptoms at all from his bowel cancer & is, at 48, on the younger end of the more common age to fall foul of the disease. He's had an unsuccessful surgery to remove the mass/es, which resulted in his having a stoma fitted (to be reversed at a later date we hope), & is undergoing 12 sessions of chemotherapy. The aim is to shrink the feckers to facilitate another attempt at surgery in early 2018.

Bowel Cancer UK have a campaign running called "Never Too Young", highlighting the need for more research and information to be available.

There are around 2,100 people under the age
of 50 diagnosed with bowel cancer every year
in the UK. While this is only 5% of everyone diagnosed with bowel cancer in the UK each year, the numbers of people diagnosed under 50 are increasing - up by nearly 25% since 2004 - and the impact is often disproportionately worse.

"3 out of 5 people diagnosed under 50 have stage 3 or 4 bowel cancer."

Your donation can help Bowel Cancer UK reduced these figures.

Thank you for the bottom of our hearts. PS Lee will be walking with us on the day all being well 💖
