Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have a friend called Leo. He is 9 years old and he was an energetic, active little boy. But he has muscular dystrophy and as the symptoms develop with age he is becoming increasingly disabled as his muscles degenerate. He is now in a wheelchair and it may not be long before his muscles, including the ones that keep him alive, such as his heart, stop working. He may not reach 18 years of age.
He is not without hope, though, and his wonderful family enrolled him in a groundbreaking clinical trial which involved travelling to Boston, Mass., USA every 8 weeks for a year. Hearbreakingly, it was then revealed that he was part of the placebo group and he was getting no benefit from the regular trips to the USA. Now that he is taking the drugs properly his parents have discerned a slowing of the onset of symptoms.
It is important, not just for Leo but for any family which may be afflicted by this distressing condition, that the clinical trial be carried out comprehensively. Having long been a part of the trial, Leo's data is crucial to the success of the project. Let's help Leo continue his contribution and, at least as importantly, get the drugs which may add a number of years, and quality, to his life.
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign have been supporting Leo throughout this and I am running the VLM to raise funds to support their valuable work at Leo's parents' request. Please help me.
