We support people to help rebuild lives after stroke.

Story

Welcome to our JustGiving page! Thanks for taking the time, we really do appreciate it.

We are a group of eight from the Sky Sports Rugby department, and we've come together in support of the Stroke Association, and our good friend Michael Lynagh.

In April last year our favourite Aussie, 'Noddy', suffered a very serious stroke while at home Down Under. It came as a great shock to us all, and we waited with hope on this side of the world as he made a miraculous recovery -  as doctors put it at the time, he didn’t just dodge a bullet, but “a bloody great big cannonball”.

We have loved having him back in the team and on our screens, and it's just like he was never away. His experience has touched us and inspired us all, and we are driven to help in any way possible.

As a result, we have begun working with the Stroke Association, and towards a goal that is both very meaningful to Michael, and has the potential to change the lives of stroke sufferers; the Stroke Association's Back to Work project.

Through extensive work with stroke survivors living in London, the Association has identified a critical gap in support dealing with the very specific needs of younger stroke survivors, especially those of working age.

Strokes can happen to people of all ages. The effects can be devastating, changing lives forever in an instant. For younger stroke survivors in particular, who previously thought they had many healthy years ahead of them, strokes can have a major impact on their lives. Many survivors can suddenly find themselves unable to return to their previous working lives, which can have huge mental and financial consequences.

The Stroke Association believes in Life After Stroke, just as we do. The charity needs vital funds to set up the Back to Work project to equip younger stroke survivors with the knowledge, skills and confidence to adjust to working life following their stroke. Whether assisting stroke survivors with adapting to a fresh career path, seeking paid or voluntary employment, or gaining the confidence to think about returning to work, the aim of the project is to enable younger stroke survivors to create meaningful life roles for themselves.

Michael was one of the lucky ones. We want to make sure that we help however we can for those who are finding the return to work daunting and challenging.

We cannot thank you enough for your time, and your generosity...on April 21st it'll be our turn to give back.
