Brain tumours are the biggest killers of young people yet we know so little about them.
Around 22 of us from all over the UK(family and friends) have joined together to take on this 24mile challenge to raise money and awareness, as both my father and I have been affected by brain tumours.
Our Stories
About Ten years ago my father, Bob, developed hearing loss in one ear. We all teased him mercilessly for getting old and deaf, but a few investigations later, it turned out he had a rare tumour on the nerve to his ear.
He has never regained his hearing in that ear, but thankfully due to modern medicine he had once off 'gamma knife' radiotherapy which has stopped the tumour in its tracks. He is now monitored by the hospital annually and is fit, ready to take on the peaks!

In 2007 I was diagnosed with a large Neurocytoma brain tumour- which could thankfully be operated on. I was rushed into hospital as there was a possiblity I could lose my sight. I was operated on twice in 2 weeks but 18m later the left over tumour started to grow again. I needed to have another operation risking epilepsy and memory loss among others once again. Afterwards I had 6 weeks of radiotherapy every day to stop it growing back. 6 weeks after that Dad walked me down the aisle on a day of celebration and new beginnings in lots of ways!
This page is a celebration of what we can all achieve together with a common purpose.
Your money will go to supporting the new Leeds Brain Tumour Research group at the Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine LIMM. They are reasearching into this devastating disease causes/treatments and your money will also go directly to supporting patients and families suffering from the effects of the disease.
"Dr Sean Lawler, an eminent neuro-oncolgy scientist leads the group called "Translational Neuro-oncology Group at LIMM" and this is an overview of the work that he plans to carry out over the next 5 years.
Sean's vision is build a research group dedicated to identifying novel approaches that will improve the outcome for patients with brain tumours, including the most aggressive and difficult to treat of brain tumours, glioblastoma. Brain tumors affect both adults and children; in fact, paediatric brain tumors are now the leading cause of cancer mortality in children, and the new research group will be looking closely at this problem."
It's not so often you hear about brain tumour 'survivors' (especially 2 in the same family!) and we want to use our experiences to help others and of course take on the challenge ourselves...
