Byte Night Thames Valley 2015 · 2 October 2015 ·

We protect and support children and young people, providing practical and emotional care and support. We ensure their voices are heard, and campaign to bring lasting improvements to their lives. Our vision is that every child and young person has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.

Story

Byte Night is an annual Action for Children event which sees around 1,500 people from the business community sleep out under the stars.  Since 1998 this event has raised over £7 million and we are hoping to raise well over £1m from this year's event alone, and this makes it now the largest single business charity event in the UK.  The money raised helps support young homeless people, particularly those that are forced to leave the local authority care system at 16 and end up with nowhere to go. They end up on the streets; they get exploited; they turn to drugs to forget; they turn to prostitution to pay for the drugs. It's a downward spiral;

  • 80,000 young people find themselves homeless each year

  • 62% of those young people are homeless due to family breakdown

  • 41% will suffer mental health issues

We have the opportunity to put this right, these young people need to get their lives back on track; find out more here by watching the Thames Valley 2014 Event Video - https://youtu.be/skE1LT9PUqQ
