Clipper 11-12 Round the World Race · 31 July 2011

The Sandpiper Trust provides emergency medical equipment for trained medical professionals in remote parts of Scotland. Our aim is to save lives across Scotland; lives which might otherwise have been lost because it’s not always possible for emergency treatment to be administered quickly enough.

Story

You will know if you have been watching the Race veiwer, we have finished, job done!!

Well job almost done, sailing around the world was the easy bit now I need to reach my target for the Sandpiper Trust.

There were times in the Southern Ocean when Qingdao was surfing at 20 plus knots that really pumped up the adrenalin. Then times in the Northern Paciffic when wearing eight layers because of the cold that I felt really low and alone.

Imagine how frightening it must feel to be laying alone on a remote road after accident waiting for help to arrive, and then the relief to see the blue Sandpiper Bag!

"When will someone you love need immediate care?"

These Bags save lives, they cost £1000 each and are provided to Doctors and Ambulances they are funded purely by your donations. There is no government funding.

These Bags are so good they are even used by the Royal Marines!!

This shot was taken from Qingdao during a parade of sail in New York harbour to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Two of the boats flew huge Union Jack kites that had been made just for the parade. It's great to be back in our 'home ocean' the Atlantic with one final crossing before heading down through the North Sea on our way back to Southampton!

Thank you to everyone who has donated, but as you can see there is still a way to go before reaching the target...........

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to update this page, but we have now arrived in Singapore after a busy refit in Gold Coast Austrailia. The Race up to Singapore was longest of the Race so far and was certainly the hottest although there was very little wind!

The picture is of Qingdao being lifted back into the water after a hull inspection and fresh anti-fouling, applied by the Crew I might add!

We are 6 months into our journey are just about half way round to 'tying the knot', the full circumnavigation!

A big Thank You to everyone who has donated, I'm sorry I can't thank you all personally. It is fantastic that I am over half way to my target with half of the Race still to complete. You do not have to wait for me to finish the Race before making your donation, the bags could save many lives in 6 months!

I met with Penny and Alistair Dickson before the race start, the founders of the Sandpiper Trust. The work the Trust does is truely amazing, but it is also incredible that the Bags and Vehicle Locators are soley funded by the Trust.

The Sandpiper Trust provides first response bags to remote areas in Scotland. These Bags could save a premature baby being delivered in a remote croft, or an injured motorcyclist on a remote Highland road.

These Bags are so good they are even being used by the Marines in Afghanistan!

£10000 may seem a huge target, but with the Clipper Race covering 40,000 miles and it being the longest race on the Planet.......... that works out at just 25 pence a mile!!

This is a Scottish based Charity, but the Sandpiper Bags have been so successful, they are now in use in remote locations around the globe.

Cheers Terry
