When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Anyone who knows me will be fully aware that I am a man built for comfort rather than speed. However, due to what I can only assume is some sort of mid-life crisis, I took up running earlier this year after a boast in a curry house that I could run the Great Eastern Fun Run.

Yes, it's the fun run rather than the half marathon but let me assure you that the 4K I'll be running (yes running, no walking) will feel like a half marathon to me as I drag my ponderous carcass around the mean streets of Peterborough on Sunday 9th October.

Maybe I'll do the half marathon next year, perhaps.

I'm running on behalf of The Stroke Association. I lost my mum last year after she suffered a series of strokes so it's a charity close to my heart.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please, if you can spare a few pounds, shillings, or pence, dig deep and donate now.

You can occasionally read about my progress on my blog, particularly here (when I started running earlier in the year), here (from a few weeks ago), and here, my final thoughts just before the race.
