As you can see by the picture I have started my rigorous training plan with a spot of weightlifting. To ensure my new shape has a degree of symmetry I will lift with the other arm on alternate days. I feel it is critical that a finely tuned athlete has a balanced approach to training. Diet is another critical factor and the “Carbo loading” element of my plan is covered by choice of only the most appropriate foodstuffs and balanced liquids available.
After Christmas the Cardio Element will click in, over the forthcoming weeks I will build up to a maximum of 200 pull-ups every morning and once this has been achieved I will start the process again with the left sock.
By spring the pummelling of the tarmac will begin. Morning noon and night I will be out there pummelling no matter what the weather……….I will be using the tried and trusted lampost technique, run one, walk one, climb one, crash into one...eventually building to the full 26.2 miles. To assist with this I have invested in a whole new range of kit such as: sun glasses, mp3 player, flask, Vaseline, pacemaker, running pumps (with built in lights), neck brace and a motorised trolley from the local A&E department as a backup vehicle.
The target is to cross the line in 4 hours 40 minutes give or take an hour, but ultimately as long as I finish it before it finishes me….I will be happy.
