I did survive it. My legs ache severally and I cannot climb the stairs, which will no doubt be of amusement when I get to work in the morning. The weather was atrocious - in the windswept and rain-lashed streets of Greater Manchester there was no let up. Ambulances and hypothermia was the greeting at the finish (and along the route for some). My official time was 4:59:38 but I'm just glad I finished it. The highs were despite the weather the people of Manchester came out in droves to support us where they could. The lows were the decision to take us through a single track cross country route through Dunham Massey which was entirely swamped and not suitable as a route for thousands of people, many of whom queued to avoid running through puddles (as if anyone was dry at that point anyway). Severe cramp got me at 22 miles and a crazy decision to take us through an underpass a mile from the finish threatened the end as the thought of traversing steps at that stage almost stopped me in my tracks. The last 3.2 miles were the worst and never-ending....and then I had to run round the ambulance at the finish line or risk going over 5 hours. Finish I did and crossed the line. Thanks to everyone who did sponsor me. Can all those less trusting of the internet pass on their cash donations please and to everyone else the link is still open to help get me to my target sponsorship of &pound;3,000. </span></div>
