Story
So sorry -we have had to move this back to w/c 25 October - but don't worry...it will be done ...wish us luck :-)
On the weekend of 2 October 2010 Nick and l will be walking the Sandstone Trail to raise money for Barretstown.
Barretstown was founded in 1994 by Hollywood Legend Paul Newman. It is a specially-designed camp for children with cancer and other serious illnesses and provides a unique programme of adventure, activities and fun, backed by the medical world, which helps children with serious illness regain their confidence and self-esteem and has become internationally recognised as having a profound and positive impact on their lives. This programme is called Therapeutic Recreation :-The children stop thinking of themselves, for even a short time, as ‘sick kids’ and begin to regain their own inner strength and confidence. 85% of children who come to Barretstown have cancer. The remaining 15% have other serious illnesses. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, their life and their family’s lives change drastically. Barretstown helps these children and their families face the psychological aftermath of cancer so that they are better equipped to deal with all that comes with this devastating and difficult journey. Barretstown adopts a holistic approach to its programme recognising the impact of childhood cancer on the entire family. That’s why we also run separate sessions for siblings and for the whole family. We also run bereavement programmes. They have to raise almost €5m a year to run our programmes and 96% of this comes from voluntary sources. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
