Due to the recent dog cull scare we have decided to bring this clinic forward to March 2012 , every single donation is even more important and we thank you all for your support
Put simply the Sirius 500 Clinic will change the lives of another 500 dogs and cats in Sri Lanka forever.
The first Sirius Clinic ran in July 2011 and provided 502 sterilisations + 562 vaccinations and 24 special treatments (e.g., TVT) plus 2 educational programs.
It was an amazing sucess but we need your help to carry on the work we have started. Photos and updates from the first Siirus 500 Clinic can be viewed by clicking here
As soon as we raise more funds The Dogstar Foundation team ,again working in partnership with our fellow WSPA member Society the Tsunami Animal People Alliance (TAPA) will be doing something quite amazing and life changing for animals & people in some of the poorest areas of Sri Lanka.
The Sirius 500 program is a 20-day mobile clinic which aims to sterilize & vaccinate 500 owned and stray animals in the Randeniya area of Sabaragamuwa Province Sri Lanka using a proven Capture/Neatur/Vaccinate/Release Protocol.
That’s over a 500 animals no longer having or siring unwanted litters, 500 animals no longer at high risk of conditions such as canine transmissible venereal tumors or bitches at risk of Pyometra. As well as preventing the birth of literally tens of thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens many of whom would spend their entire lives suffering hunger, homeless and without care or shelter at risk of disease.
The impact on animal and community health that can be achieved by a mass program is immense and will reduce occurrences such as the devistating Parvo / distemper outbreaks we dealt with in Nov/Dec 2010.
Dogstar’s team currently offers on average free 20 surgery’s a month and we have a permanent waiting list. A Sirius 500 Clinic helps us to work towards a minimum 75% sterilisation level which is the guideline for attaining zero population growth, while a minimum 75% anti-rabies vaccination is the guideline for attaining a “herd immunity” to rabies.
Of course it’s not just about numbers or indeed dogs and cats.
TAPAs Award winning Education programs will be run at local schools aimed at all ages, teaching children how to interact with animals safely in a country where Rabies is present saves human life’s and makes the community safer for everyone.
Join with Dogstar and TAPA and help make that change, we need your support to make these amazing clinics happen and change the life of 500 animals forever. Just 10 pounds will sterilize and vaccinate a dog or cat against rabies; just 10 pounds will change an animal’s life for the better forever.
Thank you
