36 family and friends of Ravin successfully completed the British 10km London Run in his memory. Thank you to everyone for their support. Please carry on donating to show your support for what was an amazing day. See how we did on the day at http://ravindattani.co.uk/

On the 12th February 2011 at approximately 6:00pm, our brother Ravin J Dattani sadly passed away. He was 29 years old. The exact cause of death is unknown; however it has been labelled as Sudden Unexpected Death In Epilepsy (SUDEP).

Ravin was one of twelve grandchildren. He was caring, compassionate, and big hearted. A great inspiration to all of us, he empowered us with truth, self-belief and strength.  His wife and family were the most important part of his life. Ravin would always be there for us, always wanting to help us and always kept us smiling.

In the UK around 456,000 people have epilepsy. There are approximately 1,200 deaths from epilepsy each year, which amounts to three people every day, and of that number SUDEP accounts for about 500 deaths per year. It is not mandatory for doctors to inform patients with epilepsy about SUDEP. Only around 28% of doctors do. Every patient who is diagnosed with epilepsy has the right to know about SUDEP, as it happens, it is real.

This is why we have chosen to support Epilepsy Bereaved, a successful charity that is trying to raise awareness of SUDEP, and campaigns for the change of existing guidelines so doctors do inform their epilepsy patients about SUDEP. Epilepsy Bereaved also offer support to bereaved families and fund research at Kings College Hospital, London with the aim of finding ways to prevent SUDEP and other epilepsy related deaths.

Please support us by donating. All monies raised will go to Epilepsy Bereaved.
