My story

NO CHILD SHOULD SUFFER
There are so many children in the world that are affected by Cancer.
It is hard enough for us to see parents, friends and colleagues stricken down with this terrible illness, and unfortunately I speak from experience as both My Mother and my Grandmother died of Cancer
However for a Child to be stricken down it is even More Tragic.
Late in 2010 I was touched by an article in our local Paper about a family’s story of their 5 year old boy. He had been diagnosed with Defuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, http://bit.ly/yWWXfA a rare tumor located in the brain stem in September 2010;
Both Parents had given up their Jobs to spend their last precious months with their Child.

I became involved with a lot of fundraising for them and during that time found out that they had had trouble getting answers or even simple help and advice from various quarters, basically because most of the research and treatment for childrens cancers is conducted in Europe or the USA...
With the help of The Local press and the generosity of local people there was enough raised to help the Family live a lifetime of memories in the few Short Months they had left with their son.

I had not been able to run since 2009 and had to have a hip operation in June 2010 but I organized a 5k fundraising fun run in December and The Dragon did appear again and ran (well walked actually)
However after becoming so Involved with this Appeal I realized that things had not really improved since I ran the 2006 British 10K and the London Marathon for the Jack Brown Appeal set up by the 2 Simple Trust and his Parents to raise funds for treatment in the USA For his Blastoma
In June 2011 I very nervously ran the British 10K as it was the first Major Run since my operation, but the Hip great no real problems and the Support from the crowd was terrific.
It was after this I realised that I had to re-vitalise The DragonsDream that I Started in 2004 before my injury. This is because not only is Research and Awareness needed for Childrens Cancers, but also for all Cancers, Disabilities, and Poverty Occuring Worldwide.
So I decided that as 2012 is the Olympic Year and "The Year of The Dragon on a £1,000,000 Worldwide Challenge" with which I hope to help to raise this awareness and raise funds to help a minimum of 12 charities Not only in the UK but in Countries that need real help.

No Child should suffer is the logo of World Child Cancer
WORLD CHILD CANCER was set up in 2007 by ICCCPO (International Confederation of Child Cancer Parents Organisation), under the leadership of Geoff Thaxter who was with Clic Seargent.
In the developing world at least 100,000 children die needlessly every year of Child Cancer – most dying without any effective pain relief. However, this figure is likely to be much higher because there are no accurate records of child cancer cases in developing countries and many children are never diagnosed.
World Child Cancer is already working in five countries and has provided over £150,000 of direct financial support and at least three times that value in medical expertise from leading paediatric oncologists who donate their time for free.
In Developed Countries the Survival rate for Childrens Cancer is about 80% yet in underdeveloped countries that falls to 20%.
This year World Child Cancers work will help around 650 children worldwide which equates to 40% of the children treated for cancer in the UK
More information can be found on their website http://www.worldchildcancer.org
So they are the Second British Charity that are going to receive Funds From My Worldwide Challenge (a minimum of £85,000) at the end of the Year of The Dragon 9th february 2013
So this page is set up to raise funds specifically for them
Thank you so much for reading

In developing countries fewer than one in 10 children with cancer are diagnosed, treated or given pain relief. World Child Cancer improves cancer care for some of the world’s poorest children by creating international twinning partnerships between medics, hospitals and parent support groups.
